SHORT posted by Janet
Powers Maune on Wednesday, November 10, 1999
- Contrary to what has been posted in some family records of
Washington County Families, the family of Henry Powers born 1808
and Sarah Sally Gobble born 1819 is NOT the descendant of Henry
Powers Sr of Stokes County NC. Henry Powers Jr of Stokes County
is on the County Census of Stokes County with Henry Powers Sr
for the Census years of 1820, 1830, and 1840. The Washington
County Henry Powers is on the WA Cty Census of 1830,1840, 1850,
1860, etc and was born in Virginia. No matter how profilic we
Powers are we cannot be in two places at the same time. This
includes Henry and Sarah/Sallie's children David Powers born
1827 married Susan Fortune, Peter Powers married Sarah Powers,
Martha Elizabeth married Silas Short, Mary Catherine married
Thomas Music, Abner Powers who married Elizabeth Davenport, Sarah
Powers married Martin Gobble, Mary Powers, and Henry Powers who
died at the age of 19 of Fever. It is my belief that the Senior
Peter Powers of Grayson and Russell county in the 1830 and 1840
Census is the father of this family. Please contact me for any
further discussion pertaining to Henry Powers Sr having 2 Juniors.
