son of Walter and Nancy (Montgomery) PRESTON. Where were he and
his parents born? F.H. Preston moved to Anderson County, TN (Eagle

- MILES, RUSSELL

- I am trying to find information on my g-g-g grandmother's
family. Mary Jane RUSSELL was born on March 4, 1824, in Washington
County, Virginia. She married John MILES, who was also born in
VA (although I'm not sure where) about 1840. Their first child,
William, was born in VA, in 1842. The family then moved to Kentucky,
and had two more children, John and Martha. Husband John died
while in KY. Mary Jane and (to my knowledge) all of the children
moved on to settle in Hardin County, Illinois. If anyone has
any information on who Mary Jane RUSSELL's parents or John MILES'
parents may be, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Cawood Sanders on Tuesday, May 4, 1999
- Looking for information on descendants of Stephen Cawood
(1724-1810)and his wife Esther Berry Cawood (1729-1828). Also
interested in Esther's ancestors. Applications of three of her
great grandchildren on the Guion Miller Roll of 1906-7 list her
as a Cherokee woman, Easter, Short Easter, the Ideal of her tribe
and Easter Keewood. Family tradition is that Esther was the daughter
of Cherokee Indian Chief Keyatoy who signed the Treaty of Lochaber
on October 18, 1770. If this is true, one wonders where the surname
Berry fits in. Another source suggests that she was the daughter
of William Berry and his wife Esther of Maryland. The Cawood
surname is sometimes spelled Caywood or Keywood. Any input would
be most welcome. Mary Lu Cawood Sanders

in the same area that would be considered PA? Been looking for

3 Robert Craig's. The one from York county Pa, the Robert who
died in Washington county VA who had the house Retirement and
my Robert who was the sheriff and later moved to Knox county

the southern part of PA was once VA and I had never come across
that before, does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks for your

May 27, 1999
- I have already posted a couple of queries for information
pertaining to my Robert Craig of Spring Creek, But I am also
looking for information about his son, David Craig who married
a Mary Reed of Tennessee. I suspect that the family was living
in the area of Washington county that was later turned into Sullivan
county Tenn and that is why this Mary Reed was referred to, from
Tennessee. I have no information regarding Mary or her family.Other
than, her brother was a prize fighter, I do know that David Craig
had a tavern some where on the Wilderness Road, specific area,
I dont know.David and wife and family ended up in Knox county
Kentucky. I do have one peice of documentation that doesnt make
sense, it is a will of Joseph Craig, brother of David that states
his brother David from Knox county Tenn. 1808. Was Knox county
Tenn at this time frame really that close to the 3 states boundaries?
KY,TN,VA?? Really odd that the family ended up in Knox county
Kentucky, similiaries are really strange. Any one have a crystal
ball they are not using for awhile, I might try it. Thanks for
any help Sally
