and Berry Cawood. A family/folk lore is that Berry Cawood's mother
Esther Berry was the daughter of Chief Keyatoy. Am currently
investigating this link, but with no success. Any information

in Abingdon, Washington Co. Va. to his daughter Jane WELSH COOL.
Jane was married to Jacob COOL, Sr. ca 1796. They had known children,
Jacob, Eliza, Jenny, Melissa, Jesse. I believe Jacob Sr. and
wife Jane had a total of 13 children. I need to find information

- There is a Susan MOORE listed in the 1870 Washington Co census,
p 137, Kinderhook Twp. I wonder if this could be my gg-grandmother
Susan HOPKINS MOORE. Susan's husband William S. Moore, originally
from Franklin Co, died in Floyd Co in 1865. William and Susan
were in Washington Co. in the 1850 census, also William's brother
Wilson G Moore. I'm wondering if Susan could have returned to
Washington Co after William's death? Any information about these

- We are looking for the descendants of Humphrey and Anne (GOLDMAN)
BAKER. Humphrey b. 1711 in England, and came to Maryland in 1729.
He migrated to the "valley of Virginia" in the 1730's,
into what was then Orange County. He married Anne Abt. 1736.
Humphrey had the following male children: Thomas b. Abt. 1737,
John b. ???, George b. ???, Robert b. 1754, and Alexander b.
???. Humphrey also had 1 daughter, Mary b. bef. 5/1755. Specifically,
we are looking for any/all of Humphrey's grandchildren, especially
an Elijah Baker b. Abt. 1758, who had ties to Grayson Co., VA.
Humphrey was known to be the first permanent settler in present-day
Washington Co., VA. Note that some of Humphery's descendants
settled in North Carolina and also Greene Co., TN. Humphrey's
son Thomas was granted land on the north bank of the Nolichucky
River in North Carolina, now Tennessee. Any help you could give

- George Warren 1755-1809 born in Md. Moved to Washington Co.
VA with his wife E 1762 and son Basil 1783-1855 m Margaret Clark
1785-1858. They are buried in the Warren Family Cemetary near
Abingdon. I have lots of Descendants, but no info on George or
his ancesters.

- I am looking for information on Andrew J. McCracken of Washington
Co. VA. He married Dorcus (Darcus) Warner. They had three children
that I know of and possibly more. The children are: Andrew (my
ggrandfather) m. Mary Ann McClure, Madison m. Cordelia Head,
and Mary who died at the age of 5 or 6 years old. They were also
in the counties of Lee, Wise, and Scott. They were listed in

listed a Martha Short, 45, Divorced, Washer. Listed with her
was a son named Robin 9,(could it be Robert?). Can anyone tell
me what happened to this family? Robin's children would be my

- Researching the Family of Andrew WILLOUGHBY Sr. and his wife,
Elizabeth WALLACE. They were married in PA around 1750 and moved
to Washington Co, VA around 1775. Andrew was an orginal trustee
of the town of Abingdon when it was formed in 1778. They had
nine children. Their children married into other Washington Co.

- Looking for descendants of Henry Kosciusko DETTOR and his
brother Nicholas DETTOR. Both on the 1860 census in Washington
Co., VA. Henry married Frances Jane MORRIS. Nicholas married
Bettie MINNICH. Nicholas remained in Washington Co., VA until
his death, but Henry moved to Lafayette and later Panola Co.,
MS where he died in 1908. Both Henry and Nicholas served with
the Confederate forces during the "Late War". Henry
was in the 27th VA Cavalry (later designated the 25th) and Nicholas
was in the 48th VA Infantry. I'd LOVE to hear from any descendants.

- Am looking for any information on a Patsy KNOT/T/S who married
Frederick WAUGHTEL (this name has been shown as WAUGHTILE & WAUGHTITE
in a Washington County Marriage book) in August 1808. I have
no further information on Patsy prior to her marriage. Is there
a possibility of her name being Martha? I do not have the parents
of Frederick either. At least not a positive set of parents.
Patsy & Frederick were my 3rd great grandparents. Thank you.

who may be researching either SHUTTLE/SHARTLE or COWAN in Washington
County, VA. My 4g-grandfather was John Shuttle (also spelled
SHETTLE or SHARTLE or SCHARTEL) who came to Washington County
from Campbell County in 1806. His son Jessee SHUTTLE married
Catharine MUMPOWER. Looking for anyone else who may be researching
this family!! Also... looking for any info on James COWAN and
wife Margaret. James died in 1849 Washington County. Came to
Washington county from Wythe. James' son Isaac COWAN is my g-g-grandfather

- I am a great, great, great grandson of Lewis Thomas who lived
in Washington Co ca 1765-1822. He had a land grant in Washington
County in 1785 on the Mill Creek. In the late 1790's Lewis Thomas,
Benjamin Thomas and Reuben Thomas all had adjoining land surveys
on the Mill Creek. Lewis is likely the son of Reuben or a brother.
Lewis may have been married to Elizabeth Widener. He was a founding
member of Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church. I would appreciate
any help in locating where Lewis or his family lived before coming
to Washington County.
