My name is Katy Hestand and I am the coordinator for Orange County, VAGenWeb. I don't live in the area (although I do miss it), so I can't run to the courthouse for you. Orange County was formed from Spotsylvania in 1734 and was named not from the color of its soil as erroneously stated by Howe and others for there is no soil of orange color in the County but for William Prince of Orange one of England's most worthy kings. It is my opinion that without folklore & ledgens we really don't grasp the essence of our families. Out of them you will find facts, even if they are colored just a bit. So, send them in, I want to hear them and I'll put them on the site to be shared with you descendants for all time. The history section will grow as I complete my research, as will the definitions page. I have to go through my files and pull the obituaries, wills and military information for my family, however I am accepting submissions and would love it if you shared what you have, so send it to me.
