I'm seeking information on the location of the grave of David Doole
(11/25/1832-8/17/1924)
MASON (MASON COUNTY) Mason is
the county seat -
Cemetery Unknown: DAVID DOOLE (11/25/1832-8/17/1924).
JM (11/4/04) found the following article on p.10 in his reprint issue of
Frontier Times (Vol. 2 October, 1924 No. 1): "Maj. David Doole, who
platted the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, a veteran of
the Civil War, the Indian wars and the Mormon rebellion, the oldest Mason
in Texas in point of service and for a half century a resident of southwest
Texas, died August 17th at his home in Mason at the age of 91. Major Doole
was born in Belfast, Ireland on 11/25/1832 and came to the U.S. with his
parents when he was 8 years old. The family settled in New York State. At
the age of 18 he enlisted in the army and served throughout the war as a
member of the Union forces. After the close of the war he was sent to Arizona
where he participated in some of the early fights with the Apaches and other
tribes of the Southwest. He also aided in subduing the Mormon rebellion. Later
he was discharged from the army and was post trader at Mason. He held this
position for 2 years and later opened a general merchandise establishment
at Mason, which he operated until his retirement from business 20 years ago."
The article says that he was survived by 3 sons, one of whom was "David Doole,
Jr.of Austin". Although "Maj." Doole does not have a bio in HOT, there
is a short entry for "Doole, Texas:" which reflects that this presently nearly
defunct small community on Hwy. 765 northwest of Brady in McCulloch Co.
was named for "David Doole, Jr., the postmaster at Brady".
Goodall-Faulkner Fued in
Blue Stretch/Wagram Community, Mason County in 8/1884. Thomas
J. Allen also killed. Interested in him and Bob Goodall.

Searching for information concerning Orville
or Orville Lorenzo McMahan born ca1855 in Wayne County, Tennessee.
He moved from TN with his father and some of his siblings to Prairie County,
Arkansas about 1859/60. Family lore says he moved to Texas after
the Civil War amd was buried at Mason, Texas 1925. I would like to
correspond with anyone
researching the McMahan/McMahon family and
will be glad to share information.
