Maierhofer celebrates her 100th birthday
Thursday (today)   will be a big day for Mrs. Charles Maierhofer, 421 E. Elm St. -- it will mark her 100th birthday.
Mrs. Maierhofer, who recalled she first moved to Seguin in 1902, was honored at a birthday party Tuesday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Eugene Glaeser, with MRs. Glaeser and Mrs. Al Flach, two of her nieces who live in Seguin, as hostesses.
Present for the occasion were all of her children, Mrs. Eugene Voges, Mrs. Elsie Harkins, Chester Maierhofer, All of Seguin and Charles Maierhofer of Denver, Colo., and other members of the family including nieces from Comfort, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Victoria and Austin.
Mrs. Maierhofer, who is as spry and alert as a person half her age, credits her long life and excellent physical condition to "work".
"Work is what helps you.  I find that when I sit for too long I begin to get a little stiff.  Then I have to find something to do," she declared.
She still does much of her own housework and spends a lot of time working in her yard.
Mrs. MAierhofer admits to being a "TV bug of sorts" and stated that one of her favorite programs is the Perry Mason series.
She also enjoys programs such as Lawrence Welk and the others that are not "too loud"  She also pointed out that her eyesight and hearing are excellent and that spends a lot of time reading.
Mrs. Maierhofer was born in Comfort and moved to Seguin with her husband 67 years ago.
"We built our home that year (it was a cotton field then) and I still live in that same home," she declared.
Her husband first worked in the Siegmann's Department Store and later opened his own general merchandise store.  He passed away a number of years ago.
Mrs. Maierhofer cakes are 100 years "rich and full" and she stated she is looking forward to many more years of full living.
