Roy Heinemeyer has good first year in Little League
A Little Leaguer who has made quite a name for himself the first year he has participated in league activities is Roy Heinemeyer of Seguin.
Roy plays center fielder for the Coca Cola team, and, according to Ben Herry, president of the Little League, he not only covers centerfield extremely well, but he also helps out the other outfielders snag high flies in their territory.
Although this is Roy's first year in the Little League, he was recently named as one of fourteen players of the league's all-star team which will complete for district honors July 27-29.  It is interesting to note that Roy received the vote of every team manager in being named to the all-star team.
One of the team managers recently said that Roy's activities are more like those of a 21-year old man than a 12-year old boy.
For example, in a recent Coca Cola - Rotary Club game, Roy had to run back quickly to catch a long fly ball hit by a Rotary player.  Immediately after catching the ball, Roy toppled over backwards.  But to the amazement of the crowd, he got up still holding the ball in his hand.
Roy's mother has received several complaints from other Little League mothers whose sons are being robbed of hits because of Roy's outstanding fielding ability.
Roy is quite good at the plate also.  Currently sporting an enviable .368 batting average, he is among the Little League's top hitters.
Roy plans to play in the Mustang League next year when he will be to old for Little League competition.
He has hopes of joining the White Sox squad when he gets a little older.
Roy is so enthused about baseball now that he even wants baseball to be his career,

Matadors annex district crown; drop Luling 6-4
The Seguin High Matadors won the District 20A Baseball championship by defeating the Luling Eagles last Friday afternoon in Luling by the score of 6 to 4.  The game went 11 innings, the first extra inning game of the year for the Matadors.
On the mound for the Matadors and going 10 innings -- all that is allowed by league rules for high school pitchers -- was big Ray Erxleben.  In the eleventh he was succeeded by Steve Maurer.  In his 10 innings Ray allowed three runs and seven hits, striking out four.
Behind the excellent twirling of Ray his mates gave him very good support afield.  In the 11 innings the Matadors committed three errors which resulted in only one run.
On the mound for the Eagles was All-State Johnny Elam of football fame.  He worked the last inning after succeeding the starting pitcher, tall end of Eagles, Meyer.  The Matadors collected seven hits off Meyer and scored five runs.  Off Elam in the big eleventh, the Matadors, aided by four free passes, scored five runs and one hit.
The Matadors had two big innings, the sixth and the eleventh.  In the sixth the Seguin men scored three runs on two hits, one a double by Erxleben, and one walk and an error by the Luling pitcher.  The Eagles scored their four runs in fourth, sixth and eleventh innings.  The sixth was the only inning in which the Eagles could get two hits, otherwise the hits were well scattered by Erxleben.
Leading the Matador hitters were Steve Maurer, 2 for 5, Lowell Anderson 2 for 4, Erxleben 2 for 5, Cantu 1 for 3 and Tommy Ferguson 1 for 3..  For the Luling lads the leading hitters were Ross 2 for 5, Frazier 2 for 5, and the following boys getting one each: Webb, Meyer, Barnett and Rader.
