Fun in Seguin during the 1940's
What did people in Guadalupe County do for fun in the 1940's?  Pretty much the same things that they do now.
Clemens Bode said that dancing was popular among his friends in the 40's.
He used to go dancing at Paloma Blanca and Schumannsville.
He also said that the Grand Ol' Opry program was pretty popular in Seguin, as was dancing music.
"They didn't of for this opera stuff much," he said.
Western movies with stars like Roy Rogers were also popular among Guadalupe County folks in the '40s.
Ted Billnitzer also used to go dancing at places like the Blue Moon dance hall in Marion.
"My father, being a preacher wouldn't let me go very often," he said.
Movies at the Texas Theater included westerns and war movies in the '40s.
"There were war pictures.....Midway, Guadalcanal," Billnitzer said.
Dancing, Music and movies might have changed over the last half decade, but their enduring forms of entertainment.
