Movement for the Recreation Park

Movement for the Recreation Park
A movement which, if carried out, will be of great benefit to Seguin and surrounding community, is the establishment of a recreational grounds and part on the lake just west of the present Water Works Park.  It is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Women's Clubs, American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, the local  Council of Jewish Women, and many individual citizens are co-operating with the city.
The movement which has been on foot for several months gain momentum immediately after the adjourment of the Rotary meeting at Aumont Hotel on Tuesday of this week, at which meeting a number of individuals subscribed $100 each in order to help assure the purchase of about sixty acres of land along the Guadalupe River.
This Recreational Center is to include, among other things, a modern swimming pool, children's playground, softball grounds, skeet traps, tennis courts and a golf course upon which the customary fees are to be charged.
Never in the history of Seguin has so much real enthusiasm been displayed over a civic project.  With whole hearted support and encouragement being demonstrated by the citizens putting their money into this project, it is practically a certainty that the City of Seguin will carry out this most worthwhile project according to plans which are in the making.
The Chamber of Commerce Recreation Park Committee has already secured a definite option on the land to be used for this park extension and it is now only a question of our public spirited and cooperative citizens contributing toward the purchase of this land in order make one of  Seguin's fondest dreams a reality.  The soliciting committee anticipates that no trouble will be encountered in going over the top in collecting funds necessary to complete the purchase of this property and deliver it to the city for early development.
Seguin has waited a long time for this opportunity and the time now seems ripe for it to materialize in short order.  The name of the individuals contributing toward the purchase of this additional park property will be engraved on a bronze plate in order to commemorate thier efforts in connection with this worthy accomplishment.
