Brief History of Floyd County
Floyd County was formed on August 21, 1876 by the Texas legislator from it's parent county, Bexar County. Any record prior to 1876 would have to be in the Bexar County Courthouse. Floyd County is named in honor of Dolphin Ward Floyd who fought and died while defending the Alamo on March 6, 1836. The county seat is Floydada.
Dolphin Ward Floyd was born on March 6, 1804 in Nash County, North Carolina and is the son of Thomas Penuel and Mary (Beckwith) Floyd. Floyd was a farmer who settled in Texas and later married Ester Berry House. Floyd joined the relief effort to the Alamo on March 1, 1836, he died five days later on his 32nd birthday.

Floyd County Archive
What is the Floyd County Archive? The Floyd County Archive is maintained by Dorman Holub, Floyd County Archive Manager. In the archive is information on bible records, cemeteries, census, land, military records, etc. This archive houses all main files. Anyone can submit information to the archive. Any information submitted to the archive stays there permanently and can never be deleted so that researchers can always find information.
