Will of John WEBB

Recorded 14th May, 1831 
John WEBB -  Last Will and Testament 

In the name of God, Amen.  I, JOHN WEBB of the County of Weakley and State of Tennessee being very sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be given to Almighty God, calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die - do make and ordain this my last will and testament.  That is to say first and principally, I recommend my soul to and into the hand of Almighty God who gave it and my body, I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors to be hereafter named and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has please God to bestow upon me in this world.  I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and from: 

First that all my just debts be paid together with all my funeral charges. 

Item First, I give and bequeath to my son AMOSA WEBB, one negro boy name AARON, one horse, one bed and furniture and one cow which he has now in possession. 

Item second, I give and bequeath to my daughter MARY DAVIS, one negro girl named LOZETTE, and the occupant whereon they now live, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf which they have in possession. 

Item third, I give and bequeath to my son JOHN WEBB, my negro boy BAXTER and a gray filly to be and remain his forever but BAXTER being sick, should he die with the present decease then my said son JOHN is to have my negro girl CAROLINE but if said negro boy should recover, he is not to have the last mentioned negro girl CAROLINE. 

Item fourth, I give unto my beloved wife NANCY WEBB all my remaining property real and personal and perishable during her natural life or widowhood but at death then the remaining property to be equally divided amongst (page 73) my six youngest children, towit: JESSE, SERRAH, ELIZABETH, GEORGE, HOLLAND and BUSHROD WEBBs. 

I likewise constitute and appoint my wife NANCY WEBB and my son AMOSA WEBB executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking annulling and making void all former wills testaments or executors heretofore made, given, granted, appointed constituted or ordained ralefying and confirming this and this only to be my last will and testament.  In witness whereof I here unto se my hand and seal this eleventh day of January in the year of our Lord, 1831.

The was the execution of the foregoing will proven in open court by the oaths of JOHN RIDGEWAY and JOSEPH WILSON, the subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
