Will of Wineford JENKINS

Will of Wineford JENKINS, deceased

I, Winneford JENKINS of the county of Weakley and state of Tennessee, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of life, and the certainty of death, do hereby make, ordain and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time heretofore made and published.

1st, After the payment of my burial expenses and any other necessary expenses which may be incurred in, and about the distribution of my estate, I dispose of the same as follows.

It is my will and desire that my Executors hereinafter named, shall sell all my estate of whatsoever kind for cash or on a credit as they may think best as soon after my decease as they may think prudent, and circumstances will allow, for which purpose i devise all my real estate ot my Executors in trust for those of my children and grandchildren hereinafter mentioned.  If the proceeds of the sale of my estate should amount to four thousand dollars or upwards, in that case, I bequeath to my daughter Jeslin T. ETHERIDGE, and Caroline P. TANSIL, and my son John A. JENKINS, one thousand dollars each, and to my two grandchildren by my daughter Eliza, namely, Eusterce Caroline McKEEN and her brother John Doke McKEEN, one thousand dollars between the two, or five hundred dollars to each, but should my property bring less than four thousand dollars, then I give the whole of its proceeds to the above named children and grandchildren in the foregoing porportions, and should my estate produce more than four thousand dollars, in that case, it is my will that the surplus over that amount be equally divided between the foregoing children and grandchildren, and my daughter Jane C. COOK, my two grandchildren representing their deceased mother and taking together, one fifth of such except over four Thousand dollars.  The reason I have in this will given nothing to my daughter Jacksey JONES and Mary H. GLENN, and my son Willington JENKINS is that they have already received more than I now have to give to the younger children, the oldest ones having been advanced by their father in his lifetime.

Lastly, I appoint my friend James ETHERIDGE and Erasmus TANSIL, Executors to this will, in testimony of this solemn act.  In witness of this my last will and testament written on one sheet of paper, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this the sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-one.
