Will of  Harbert Collier 
January 14, 1843

In the name of God Amen.

I, Harbaird  Colier of the state of Tennessee, Henry County being in a low state of health and advanced in age and being sound of mind, Blessed be God,  do this 14th day of January in the year of our Lord  one thousand eight hundred and forty three make and ordain this my last will and testament.

First , I bequeath my soul  to the hand of Almighty  God that gave it  and a body to be buried  in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter to be named and as for all my worldly estate which my God has blessed me with in this life, I give and bequeath as follows to wit:

Second, I lend to my well beloved wife, Mahaley Colier after all my just debts are paid all my household and personal property during her natural life or widowhood except such perishable property as she my wife may deem unnecessary to her happiness and comfort and the net sales of such property, if any to be appropriated at  the will of my Executors hereafter mentioned and after the marriage or death of my wife it is my will and desire and  I do hereby positively order my Executors to dispose of all the balance and residue of my estate after the following manner.

First to my grand daughter, Marey Snipes being the youngest daughter of my beloved daughter Marey Snipes, decd, I give and bequeath one twentieth part of my said estate after all claims against the said estate is satisfied to be hers and her heirs and assigns forever.

Secondly  to my beloved Daughter Keziah Hampton Coulter, I order one ninth part of my estate after reducing one twentieth for Marey Snipes, to be given to her to keep and hold during her natural life and after her decease to descend and be inherited by the children of Mary Jane Hill, she being the only child of Kezziah Hampton Coulter to them and their heirs and assigns for ever.

Three, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son, Ashman F Colier, one ninth part of  said estate, after reducing one twentieth to Marey Snipes, to him and his heirs and assigns forever.

Fourth, I give and bequeath to my granddaughter, Eliza Gibbs, one ninth part of said estate, after reducing one twentieth  part to Marey Snipes, subject to a charge however for her board and trouble of raising her the damages to be applied by my Executors and paid out of her part of the Estate with the residue to her, her heirs and assigns forever.

Fifth, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved daughter Eliza Coulter, one ninth part of said estate, after reducing one twentieth part to Marey Snipes, to her and her heirs and assigns forever.

Sixth,  I give and bequeath to my Dearly beloved son, Beverly Charloss Collier one ninth part of the said estate after reducing the twentieth to Marey Snipes to him and his heirs and assigns forever.

Seventh,   To my beloved daughter Mahala Frizzell, I give and bequeath during her life one ninth part of my estate after reducing one twentieth  for Marey Snipes as follows: To wit  One Negro girl named Riah to be valued by three disinterested men and given to her at valuation and the residue if any to be made equal to one ninth of my estate. After making the above reductions at her death it is my will and desire that said girl, Riah and her increase to be equally divided between the heirs of her body to them and their heirs forever.

Eighth, To my beloved son, Harbert Henry  Colier, I give and bequeath  one ninth part of said estate after reducing one twentieth part  for Marey Snipes to him and his heirs forever.

Ninth, To my beloved son, Harvy With Colier I give and bequeath one ninth part of my estate after reducing  one twentieth part to Marey Snipes to him and his heirs forever.

Tenth, To my beloved son, Doctor Sidney Colier, I give and bequeath one ninth part of said estate after reducing one twentieth part to Marey Snipes and some debts and interest to be deducted out of the said estate and the balance to him and his heirs forever. 

The Division of my estate is to be made by my Legatees.  If they can’t agree upon a plan for a division to suit them and in that case it is my desire and order that my Executors before mentioned  make bond and approved Security and then make division aforesaid.

I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife, Mahaley, to be  Executrix and my son, Ashman F. Collier my CoExecutor for this my  last will and testament hereby revoking and disannulling all former wills  or wills made by me heretofore ratifying this to be my last will and testament 
I hereby I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date aforesaid.
