| Capps Brothers - John Henry,
James Lafayette and Willie Dean. They served in World War
II. Since all three were in the service at the same time during
the war, a letter of gratitude and appreciation from the President of
the United States was sent to their parents, Henry and Fronie Bowers
Capps. The Capps Family lived in Greenfield. |

| John Henry Capps. He was
wounded while serving in Europe. The enemy bombed his camp, and
he almost died. Doctors placed a metal plate in his head to save
his life, and that plate remained there for the rest of his life.
Born July 23, 1916 --- Died July 2, 1992 |

| James Lafayette Capps. He
was first sent to Camp Tyson in Henry County, TN. Camp Tyson was
involved in experimenting with dirigibles (balloons) to be used in the
war. James was then sent to San Antonio, Texas. Born July
7, 1912 --- Died June 26, 1985 |

| Willie Dean Capps. He
trained with the Rainbow Infantry and was transferred to the 17th
Airborne Division. During the war the 17th Airborne crossed the
Rhine River on March 24, 1945. That day was the day after Willie
Dean's 20th birthday. He served in three campaigns and
fought in the Battle of the Bulge. It was during this time that
his feet froze, but he was fortunate in that his feet were not
amputated as was the case with many of his fellow soldiers. He
received several awards and ribbons for his service. Among these
awards is the Bronze Star. The war took him to places that
included England, France, Luxembourg and Germany. Born March 23,
1925 in Greenfield, Tennessee Submitted by their niece, Linda
