These are from the 3 banks that
have been in existence in Greenfield. In 1833 The Fruitgrowers Bank and
the Greenfield Bank were closed because of President Roosevelt’s
direction. In 1935 the Greenfield Bank was reorganized as Greenfield
Banking Co. All depositors of the Fruitgrowers Bank lost everything.
I’m not sure about the original Greenfield Bank. Some may have
recovered some of their money but do not know the details. Community
Bank of Greenfield was organized in recent years. Now known as First
