Edward Featherstone

1783 Virgina - between 1850-1860 to Tennessee


Edward FEATHERSTONE was among the wounded at Battle of New Orleans. Two of his brothers, Dr. Henry FEATHERSTON (he dropped the E in his name), and Daniel Marshal FEATHERSONE  both were among the 39 casualties at the Battle of New Orleans. They were from Smith County, TN. After his wife, Mary Y. Hibbett, died, Edward moved his children and himself to Gibson Co., TN and then into Weakley County. Some of his children married in Gibson, some in Weakley. He died between 1850 and 1860.

Edward, Henry, and Daniel Marshall were the sons of Henry FEATHERSTONE, a Methodist Preacher, and his wife, Elizabeth MARSHALL

Edward appears on Muster rolls of Col Thomas Williamson's 2nd Regiment West Tennessee Volunteer Gunmen - Sept. 1814 - April 1815.

BRIEF HISTORY: 
Along with Colonel Robert Dyer's unit, this regiment was part of General John Coffee's brigade that fought at Pensacola and New Orleans. Marching from Fayetteville to Camp Gaines (30 miles from Fort Montgomery), they helped Jackson take the port of Pensacola from the Spanish on 7 November 1814. Williamson's men then participated in all of the engagements at New Orleans, where they were part of the left line of Jackson's breastworks. In March 1815 they returned to Tennessee via the Natchez Trace.
