In 1892 John Downer (John Downer: Orig, lot 31) donated the cemetery land with the provision that no fees be charged for cemetery lots and that the fence be well maintained so his cows would not be getting into the cemetery and knocking over early grave markers. In 1988 a perpetual care fee of $100 was initiated because so many burials had no family left in the area to care for the graves. Grave #1 is on the northwest corner of each lot, the size of the lots are not all the same. The date of death may be off in some records by a few days because some of the records show date of burial. James Stewart: Original, Lot 15, was a Civil War Veteran, A Sergeant under General Sherman and fought in 32 battles. Albert Gulickson: Add2, blk2, lot 1, is of the same family as those Guillickson's with 2l's. They were all sons of Gullick and were cousins of some of the Olson's who were sons of Ole, a brother of Gullick. In Norway the Mosby's were Hanson's but in the US they changed their name to reflect the region in Norway from which they came. |
