About the South Dakota GenWeb Project

In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the South Dakota Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in South Dakota, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

Welcome to South Dakota GenWeb's Jones County site. My name is Stewart Marty (Stu), and I presently live in Illinois. I moved away from South Dakota (Black Hills area) more than twenty years ago. My mother's parents (Tobiassen) were among the pioneers of the Jones County area, and much of our heritage comes from this land. I have been reading and researching all I can uncover about this territory. With your help, I will be able to maintain this informative website for your research and browsing enjoyment.
