This page was developed from an idea from Meg Greenwood who wanted to find an online resource where volunteers could list any Ayrshire resources
they have access to and would be willing to do lookup requests.

REQUEST RULES

Requests should be specific and give as much detail as you can. Abuse of the kindness of these volunteers might cause them to withdraw their names so
PLEASE ask for ONE individual only.

If you ask for all references to a common name, or for time-consuming research the lookup volunteer will ignore your e-mail completely.

Do not ask a volunteer for a lookup in a resource they do not have listed or your email will be ignored.

Donna has access to:-

1881 British census CD's

Book: "History of Kilmarnock, Scotland" by Archibald McKay, 1858
The book has a nominal index, a list of Magistrates, Treasurers, Provosts and clerks of the Burgh of Kilmarnock, from 1695-1863 plus 178 pages on the town and it's people.
Originally printed in 1858 and then revised in 1864 so, obviously, it would only be about people before that date.

1851 Riccarton census - will do lookups until it goes live on the FreeCen web site and includes ED 1-6, 23-25 and the prison.
ED 23-25 are the parts of the parish that are within the Burgh of Kilmarnock and those numbers are therefore "missing" from the Kilmarnock books.

origins, if known; author Donald White.

I quote from the Introduction, "Gravestone inscriptions provide an almost
unique source for deaths prior to 1855 in Scotland and for information on
Scots dying overseas before that date. After 1855 there are statutory
records of births, marriages and deaths in Scotland. The only other major
sources of such information lie in the obituary pages of the press or in
the various Registers of Testaments."

Sample entry reads as follows:

"Kerr, Robert born 1829, son of Robert Kerr and Agnes Haldane, a
Congregationalist minister in Tonah, Kansas, died in Wakefield, Kansas.
29.6.1890 [Kilmarnock g/s] "
