GROOMS-My great-grandfather James Alexander
Grooms was born 10 Mar 1848 in Turbeville, SC. He married Elizabeth E.
Locklear, daughter of Thomas Locklear. They are both buried at the Pine
Grove Methodist Church in Turbeville. Only her grave is marked. I would
like to identify his father. His mother was Martha Elizabeth Grooms. I
am also interested in finding any helpful information about other Grooms
families from this area. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Nancy Hughes

CASSELS- My Cassels are proven to John
Cassels b. 1744 who first arrives in Georgia in 1807 and takes a land grant
for property in Baldwin, County (now Jasper, Co.) John and his wife have
6 children, Henry, Absolom, Levi, Rebecca, Elizabeth, and (Patsy? ) Henry
my direct line and his wife Charlotte Jones have 7 children, Avington,
Absolom, Mark, Benjamin, Robert, William and Rebecca.. The family moves
from Jasper Co.GA (there may have been other moves prior to this) to LaGrange,
Troup County, GA. And in 1850, four brothers are living there, as follows:
Absolom, Benjamin, William and Mark Cassels with wives and children, also
there mother Charlotte Jones. Henry, my direct line, and my grandfather
moves to Angelina, Co, Texas and can be found in the 1860 Census with a
Simeon Boykin.
I feel that my John Cassels born in 1744 is the son of Henry Cassels
b.1710-1715 and Margaret Mitchell of Craven Co. South Carolina, a veteran
of the Rev. war having fought with Francis Marion (the swamp fox) but I
have not proven it yet to my complete satisfaction. But all dates appear
to make this the case. One of the daughters, Lydia Cassels b.circa 1745
married Capt. Elias DuBose on Jan. 20, 1763 they had 11 children. If any
of this family looks like it connects to your, please contact me and we
can exchange information.
