Hello and welcome to Lincoln County, Oregon! My name is
Jan Bony, your Lincoln County temporary coordinator. This county is available
for adoption, so keep it in mind. Many thanks go to Beth Perry Johnson & Bev Przybylski
who maintained these pages for many years and to Walt Davies before that. This is
a work in progress as we build on what's gone before us.
Please feel free to contact me for historical donations, questions or answers.
In addition to giving helpful research leads, we would like to get as many Lincoln
County records as possible transcribed and online. If you would like to help,
have any information to share, or have suggestions or links that you feel belong
on these pages you can contact me via email.
Please use "Lincoln County" in the subject heading of your email so I can identify
it and get to it as soon as possible. And do check back with us often to see the
changes here.
History of Lincoln County
Established
on February 20, 1893, Lincoln County was named for Abraham Lincoln, 16th President
of the United States. The county was created by the state Legislature in 1893 from
Benton and Polk counties, and it contained the Siletz Indian Reservation, lying
between Polk County and the Pacific Ocean. The county seat is Newport and the courthouse

south, and just 15-25 miles in width, bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Coast
Range of mountains. The county is part of the Central Oregon Coast region; its northern
border is about 80 miles south of the Columbia River. Other towns in Lincoln County
include Depoe Bay, Lincoln City, Siletz, Toledo,Waldport, and Yachats, as well as
many smaller communities such as Eddyville, Elk City, Gleneden Beach, Lincoln Beach,
Nashville, Neotsu, Otis, and Seal Rock.
