on George Keefer who came to Thorold in about 1790 from New Jersy Colony.
I plan to be in Thorold next month and hope to find the cemetery where
he is buried and the church that family history says has the bell dedicated
to his memory. I understand that he had a mill. Is it still in existance?
I also am looking for information on his son, James, who was born in Thorold
but settled in Middlesex Co. Where are the best places to begin my research?

He lived in Leeds England before moving to Niagra. He fought with the canadian forces in the first world war and recieved a medal of valor but I'm not sure which medal it was. His picture, along with my father(David Wilkie) and My uncle (Andy,Gump Lister)are present in the history of Niagara falls book. My grandfathers medal presentation was highlited in the N.F. review 1n the mid seventies. Someone by the name of Melanie Turner found the family bible and was seeking to get it to the family. I would like to know if anyone was called about it. Her address in Quebec is no longer valid. The mother's maiden name was Bertha Leona Locke and she was born in Tara, Ont. on April 3,1896. Her parents were Benjamin Locke and Mary Anne (nee Downie). There is a marriage record for Bertha Leona Locke and Charley Orvlle Davis of Grand Rapids, Michigan, being solemnized on Nov.27,1912 in Welland as well but no further reference to him and no record of marriage to Christy that I can find. Bertha would have been only 16 at the time of the marriage. There is mention of William Locke at 82 Division St. Welland in the census of 1911. Margaret Lock, 74 yr. old widow of German ancestry, born in Rural Ont. Aug. 10, 1826 Methodist religion, ran a boarding house at # 7, North side of Main St. in 1901 census of Welland. Hope someone can help with their connection to Bertha. Interested in any stories about Daniel Wesley McCain, Humberstone's oldest
resident dies in 1931. Obituary mentions his construction business, active
on school board, township of Cainville and McCain street named after him.
He lived at 285 Main Street - is this home still standing? Any information
would be greatly appreciated. Daniel Wesley McCain is my great grandfather;
my grandfather is Hugh Lentz MCain, brother of Charles Wesley McCain. He was born in Ireland and came to Onterio with perhaps a cousin or brother named ANDREW MCSHERRY. He lived for quite a while in Lincoln Co., St. Catherine/St. David, Onterio, Canada. He was Westleyan Methodist. He invented the McSherry Plough, and had a plough factory called the "ST DAVID'S PLOUGH FACTORY" in about 1861. His wife Rebecca Sebey, was from NY and they had boys, JOHN, WILLIAM, GEORGE, HENRY, and daughters also. Their first child, Sarah McSherry was born in Niagra, Lincoln, Onterio, Canada abt. 1849. They were Blacksmiths and moved east, ending up around Port Stanley or Dunwick Twp., Elgin Co., Onterio, Canada, in about 1871. There I lost the family of boys, although I know William came to Michigan and became a Justice of the Peace. I know James' wife Rebecca, died in childbirth, or shortly thereafter, and I would like to know what happened to James McSherry. Does anyone know where theMCSHERRY'S came from in Ireland, or any ship passenger list which includes a James McSherry between 1824-1849. I am also very interested in finding the marriage of James McSherry and his wife, Rebecca Sebey. If you know anyone who can help me, I would love to hear from them. Duff MILLER received a land (1 acre) from the Crown in the town of Niagara
in 1822 (1acre). He had a will, made and probated in 1859, that transferred
the lot. His birth year or age at death were not indicated. Beneficiaries
were his wife Ann, brother Robert MILLER of Niagara, and sons William
and John of Galt and Richard of St. Catherine's. There were also "daughters"
whose names were not indicated. My question--should anyone's research
perhaps include this family--was his mother's maiden name DUFF?...what
was the "DUFF Connection"?
