Oklahoma Family Reunions

Welcome to this OKGenWeb Special Project Page!

Hello.... 8-)

Most family reunions are scheduled during the summer,
between Memorial Day in May and Labor Day in September.
Others choose a holiday such as Christmas, Easter,
or Thanksgiving to gather loved ones together.

Some reunions are large extended families
numbering into the hundreds, while others may be
the children and grandchildren of one very special couple.

Many churches and communities also hold Homecoming events,
attended by those who have returned 'home' to renew old friends.

Does your Oklahoma Family have annual get-togethers?
If so, you are invited to submit your Oklahoma Family Reunion
information to be included on the OK Reunions Page.

Please send your reunion info to
LaRae Halsey-Brooks,

and be sure to include:

WHO to contact for more information (name & email)
WHAT is the reunion -- surname/community/church
WHEN will your reunion be held (is it annual?)
WHERE will you be holding your reunion

Please visit our Reunion Tips section
for ideas and suggestions for your next reunion,
and be sure to print out the
Guide for Interviewing Family Members...
a terrific list of memory-joggers to use anytime!

THANKS!
LaRae & Eireann

FAMILY REUNIONS

"Given the modern realities of life, it has become
increasingly difficult to maintain family bonds.
Today's families tend to be widely scattered
across the country and even the world.
Too often, the physical distance
spills over into emotional distance.

"Instead of waiting for major events,
like weddings and funerals, to get together,
more and more families are opting to strengthen
and reaffirm their bonds at family reunions.

"Reunions provide a chance for members to achieve
a deeper appreciation for the family as a vital entity.
They also give children the opportunity to
develop a sense of continuity and belonging
as they begin to realize they have ties
that extend beyond their little family unit."

BLESSED ARE...

Blessed are the grandfathers,
who filed every legal document,
for these provided the PROOF.

Blessed are the grandmothers,
who preserved family Bibles and diaries,
for these are our HERITAGE.

Blessed are fathers, who elected officials
that answer letters of inquiry
for--to some--the ONLY LINK to the past.

Blessed are the mothers,
who relate TRADITIONS and LEGENDS to the family,
for one of her children will surely remember.

Blessed are the relatives,
who fill in family sheets with extra dates,
for to them we owe our FAMILY HISTORY.

Blessed is our family,
whose members strive for the PRESERVATION of RECORDS,
for theirs is a labor of love.

Blessed are the children who will never say,
"Grandma, you have told that old story twice today."
