Part XI

The late Henry Long whose death occured recently was for many years a well known resident of this county. He was born in Germany Sept 28, 1845 and died at the National Soldiers Home at Dayton, Ohio, December 12, 1919 age 74 years. He was brought up in the German Evangelical Protestant faith and in his youth was confirmed a member of that church. He came to America at the age of 15 years and attended public school in this county, and was fully in sympathy with the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army and served until the close of the war. He was a member of th Order of Odd Fellows, September 28, 1871 he was married to Sarah Aufranc at Tylersville, Ohio. 7 children were born to them. The deceased lived in Union Township nearly all of his married life.

Mrs. Elisabeth Dames, age 88, widow of Herman Dames, died suddenly of a heart attack Thursday morning at 12:10 o'clock in her residence, 1034 Tiffen Avenue.
She was born in Cincinnati, December 2, 1851, and had lived in Hamilton for the last 35 years. For 23 years she had established a home for her invalid daughter of 48 years, Miss Angela Dames, and for her grandson, Vincent Imfeld.
She was a woman of remarkable qualities and despite her age was able to take complete charge of her household, carrying out her duties even Wednesday. She was affectionately known to many as "Grandma Imfeld." She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a member of the various parish societies.
Her husband, Herman Dames, died 50 years ago, and leaves three daughters, Mrs. Dan Imfeld and Mrs. J.C. Worsham, both of Middletown, and Miss Angela Dames, of Hamilton; one son, Edward Dames, of Cincinnati, 22 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:45 o'clock in St. John's Cemetery, St. Bernard, Cincinnati. Friends may call after 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Estella Imfeld, beloved wife of Ferdinand Imfeld, the well-known music dealer at No. 10 South Third Street died suddenly at her home at 826 High Street at 10:15 o'clock today of heart trouble, aged 39 years. While she had been suffering from heart affliction for some time she had only been bedfast for the past week but her condition was not such as to cause immediate alarm.
A moment before her death she suddenly said in subdued tones, "I think I'm gone" and almost instantly after she expired. Her death comes as a sad and great shock to the family and to many friends and many were the expressions of sympathy and sorrow.
Mrs. Imfeld was born in Cincinnati in which city she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Imfeld, June 30, 1897, and with her husband she removed to this city 17 years ago where she has made her home ever since.
Of the union four children survive, Vincent Charles, 1, Celesta, 10, Aureale, 16 and Clement Imfeld, 18 years of age. She was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Stephen's Married Ladies Society and of the Protective Home Circle.
In her dying moment her spirit passed away as upon a strain of the sweetest music caught up the heavenly choir invisible and swelled into grander volume as the dear one departed from the earthly home and was welcomed to the home eternal.
Mrs. Imfeld was a woman of sweet and lovable character, the idol of her home and greatly endeared to all who knew her. All sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in this sad hour of their great bereavement.
Due notice will be given of the funeral.

Mrs. Theresa Cook died at Mercy Hospital Monday at 6 P.M. of complications, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and two days.
Mrs. Cook was born at Bavaria, Germany and came to this country at the age of 11 years and settled in Cincinnati. She was united in marriage in that city, to Jacob Cook who preceded her in death 38 years ago. She came to this city the year following the death of her husband and has since resided here. She was a devout Catholic.
Mrs. Cook's first interests were in the home. In more recent years her geniality was a lure to the younger generations who were exceptionally fond of her. Despite lessened activities due to advanced years, Mrs. Cook was able to retain her many staunch friends and to make new ones because of her lovable character. Her passing caused a deep sorrow to many Hamiltonians.
Five children, Mrs. Helen Bonner, Mrs. B. J. Beckmann, Charles P. Cook and Dr. Edward Cook, all of Hamilton and Mrs. Joseph Schumaker, of Springfield, mourn the loss of their mother. She is survived also by one sister, Mrs. Helen Schorr, of Cincinnati, and 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Friends may view the remains between the hours of 5 and 9 P.M. Wednesday evening. By request of the deceased, friends are asked to omit flowers.
The funeral will take place Thursday morning from St. Stephen's church with burial in St. Stephen's cemetary. Announcement of the hour of the services at the church will be made later.

Mrs. Theresa Cook, loved by all who knew her, died on Monday evening at six o'clock in Mercy hospital following a short illness of pneumonia. Death came to Mrs. Cook at the age of 86 years having survived her husband, Jacob Cook, thirty-eight years.
She leaves two sons, Charles, and Edward Cook, the later a well-known physician and county coroner, three daughters, Mrs. B. J. Beckman with whom she had resided in recent years; Mrs. Helene Bonner and Mrs. Joseph Schumacher of Springfield, Illinois. She also leaves nineteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Helen Schorr, of Cincinnati.
When but eleven years of age, Mrs. Cook came to this country from Germany with her parents, and since that time has made her way into the hearts of people with whom she came in contact. Her death comes as a distinct, severe shock to all sho have had the pleasure of knowing her personally.

Annie May Passon, daughter of Abraham and Anna Catherine (Baird) Price, was born July 31, 1861 in Butler County, Ohio. She died at the Dayton Hospital Wednesday, October 12, 1928. She was one of seven children. At the age of 12 years, she with her parents came to Darke County, Ohio, and located on a small farm, one mile from her present home. There she grew to womanhood and on May 15, 1884, untied with William Passon. Two children were born to this union, Franklin and Grace. She and her husband maintained this home until her husband passed away to the Great Beyond. She still remained in the home, sharing it with the daughter who so faithfully cared for her mother until the last few weeks of her illness. Forty-five years ago she united with the Grand View United Brethren Church under the ministry of Rev. Jacob Pantle. She held her membership until the church disbanded. Though fair in body, her brave soul never faltered, and as far as she could, with willing hands ministered to loved ones around her. She bore her affliction with patience and awaited the call from the messenger to come "up higher" to the loved ones, who had gone before, where life is one sweet song. She was a good wife, mother and neighbor.
She leaves to morn their loss, one son Franklin Passon, one daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Grace) Howard, two grandsons, Harold and Gerald Eugene Passon, one granddaughter, Lucille Passon, one great-granddaughter Sally Sue Passon, three brothers, William Price and Bert Price of Seven Mile, (Butler County), Ohio, Clifford Price, Greenville, Ohio one sister Mrs. Flora Petersimes, Greenville, Ohio, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 15th, 1928 at the Miller Funeral Home, 124 West Fifth Street, Rev. Jacob Pantle, officiating. Interment in the Greenville cemetery.
The family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to all who so kindly expressed their sympathy, and assisted in any way by word and deed. They will never be forgotten.
