General Robert Bentley

Born near Sharon, Pennsylvania.  Spent his early days in Trumbull Co., Ohio where he married Phoebe Lake, daughter of Constance Lake.  He and his family later removed to Mifflin Twp., Richland Co. and built the first brick home in the county near Sites Lake.  He later moved to Washington Twp., Richland Co., and built a flouring mill.  In 1839, he moved again, this time to Mansfield, where he resided until his death in 1862.  During his life he served four years as an associate judge in the Common Pleas court.  He was also involved in bringing the first fair to the county.  In the military, he rose to the rank of Major-General of the State Militia.  He was of the Baptist faith, and one of the founders of that church in Mansfield.
