was born in Brown Twp Paulding Co Oh Feb 20 1860 and departed this life
Sep 1 1909 at the home of his parents and the same home which he was
born. His marriage was Dec. 31, 1881 to Ruth Prowant She
being
born Apr 2, 1863 in Perry twp, Putnam Co, Oh. she passed away Aug 29,
1924 at the home of her sister Mrs. Salmoa Shafer near Oakwood,
Oh. Their burial was in Fairview Cemetery near Dupont
Oh
Their Children are Celma, who died in infancy, Ernest, John, Earl,
Blanche, William and Charles.
CARNAHAN,
James M.
James M Carnahan was
the son of
Thomas and Elizabeth (Smith) Carnahan born in Mercer Co., Penn. Oct 26,
1825 and died in his home three miles North of Oakwood, Ohio Nov. 7,
1927. He moved with his parents to Richland County Ohio when
twelve years of age and there grew to manhood. March 22, 1849
he
married to Lucinda Lighthill and to this union was born twelve children
six preceeded him death. In 1852 he moved to North of Oakwood
Oh
where he remained until his death. His wife departed this
life
March 28 1900. The children living are Mrs. Polly Fuller,
Jesse
M., W.J. Carnahan, Martha Thrasher, Mrs Almed Cochran, Jemime
Bidlack. 34 grandchildren and a number of great
grandchildren. He was a member of the Brethen Church for 50
years. He was a Civil War Vet. His burial was in
the
Prairie Chapel cemetery lot 100 east side.

CHANEY, Samuel (DATED: 27 July 1916)
Samuel Chaney died
suddenly at his home in Paulding Wednesday evening about 7:30. Mr.
Chaney has been in poor health since last December, but has been able
to be out part of the time. He ate a hearty supper last evening and was
apparently feeling better, but after doing some chores in the yard,
suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the ground when returning to
the house, and did not recover. He was a veteran of the Civil War,
being a member of Co. C, 68th O.V.I., and was 75years, 3 months and 22
days of age. He leaves a wife and four children. The funeral will be
held at the late residence either Friday or Saturday afternoon. Rev.
Long officiating.

CHAPMAN, Elmira

Elmira
Rose Chapman was born August 28, 1814, at Palmyra, New York, and
departed this life Nov. 6, 1910, aged 96 years 2 months and 28 days.
Deceased was an old and greatly respected resident of Antwerp, Ohio,
for many years, having located on the river near there, the about the
year 1830, but she lived with her daughter, Mrs. R. A. Handy for the
past 10 years. She was married to William Bell in 1833. To this union
was born four children, one son and three daughters, of whom one son
and one daughter are still living. Addison S. Bell, of White Cloud,
Kansas and Electa A. Handy of Antwerp, Paulding County, Ohio. She was
again united in marriage to Daniel Chapman in 1840, at Jonesville,
Mich. To this union was born five daughters, none of whom are living.
She therefore leaves two children, twenty-one grandchildren,
twenty-seven great grandchildren and fourteen great-great
grandchildren, one half brother, Addison Enos and one half sister,
Electa A. Smith both living at Des Moines, Iowa, one step-son J. W.
Bell living at Everson, Wash., together with many friends to mourn her
departure. Funeral services occurred Tuesday at 10 a. m. from Bethel M.
E. at Forder's cemetery, conducted by Rev. Carter of Antwerp.

For more than two years George W Coffelt has been a sufferer from a
cancerous growth on his face. An operation was resorted to, but to no
avail. After a time the malignet growth again made it's appearance and
for months preceding his demise and suffering was intense. For some
days it was known that his feet were treading the shadowed valley. At
6:40 Monday morning in the gray dawn of the new day, he passed quietly
from this world of hopes, disappointments, sufferings and sorrows to be
forever at rest. Born in Paulding County, Ohio , over seventy-three
years ago, he spent the greater portion of his life in the county that
gave him birth.

COOMER, Albert B ~ Albert B. Coomer, one of the earliest settlers of Paulding county passed away at his home near Payne on May 26th having lived here for over fifty years, within whichtime he has won the respect of all who knew him.
Deceased was born in Newfare, New York, March 14th, 1820, and was 84 years, 2 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. He came Paulding county with his wife fifty years ago and together they battled hard through the pioneer days to raise their family of eight children, three of whom have already passed to the great beyond. He leaves to mourn his death his almost heart-broken wife, three sons and two daughters, a brother & sister and a large number of grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on May 28th after which the remains were laid to rest in the Lehman cemetery beside his three children. The many friends of the deceased join with the Reflector in expressing their sympathy to the bereaved ones.

COOMER, Mary (Keltner) ~ Mary Keltner Coomer was born January 1, 1825 in Pickaway County, Ohio died February 1, 1907, aged 82 years and 1 months. She was married to Albert Coomer, February 22, 1849. To this union was born three sons and six daughters, four of the daughters having preceded their parents to the better world. She came with her husband to Paulding county inthe fall of 1852 being one among the earliest settlers of Benton township. She endured the many hardships of pioneer life. Her husband died May 26, 1904 and since that time she has been making her home with her youngest son Samuel Coomer until the time of her death. She leaves three sons, two daughters, 58 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of neighbors and friends to mourn her loss.

ALBERT J CRESS, 84,
died Thursday at home. A native of Payne Ohio, he retired as president
of Lawrence Packing Co and manger of Mizpah Shrine Temple, Arabian Room
in 1985. He owned Cress Market from 1932 to 1957. Surviving are his
wife Rosella L; two sons, The Rev C James of Fort Wayne and Robert G of
Bluffton, a sister Wilma Cress of Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren.
Services at 11 am Monday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home
Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W Wayne St, with calling from 2 to 5 pm and 7
to 9 pm Sunday. Burial in Dealy Cemetery, Payne. Memorials to Heartland
Health Care & Hospice or to Trinity English Lutheran Church.

Chester ~ The funeral of
Chester Cress, formerly of Benton Township, who died recently at
Sturgis Michigan, was held in the M E Church here, Thursday. Friends
came from Sturgis, Colon and Three Rivers Mich. Some came from Indiana
and Ohio. The widow was Lucinda Anderson, also of Benton Township. They
were pupils of Mrs Mary Maloy in the "Anderson Brady school.

Rev Delbert E Cress,
80, 1103 E Ervin Road, died at 3:35 pm Thursday May 20, 1999, at
Vancrest Health Care Center. He was born Dec 26, 1918, in Paulding
County, the son of Farry N (Thompson) Cress who survives at Convoy Care
Center, Convoy, and the late Fred W Cress. On July 19, 1946, he married
Juanita Hoobler, formerly of Manville IL, who survives. Other survivors
include three sons, Ronald L (Ruth) Cress of Fort Wayne IN; Daniel E
Cress of Bellefontaine, and James A (Bonnie) Cress of Louisville; two
brothers, Duane (Juanita) Cress of Decatur IN, and Lowell (Sharon)
Cress of Pembroke FL; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by a sister, Lois Plumley. Rev Cress had served in the Church of the
United Brethren in Christ, the Evangelical United Brethren and the
United Methodist Churches in Auglaize, Sandusky and West Ohio
conferences. He retired in 1982 after 44 years of ministry. He had also
attended Convoy Union School and received his seminary training at
Huntington College in Huntington IN. Private services will be held at
the convenience of the family. Preferred memorials are to the American
Bible Society of the United Methodist Council on Ministries.

Elizabeth J.
Elizabeth J Cress,
nee Dealy, was born in Champaign County, Ohio, August 31, 1840, and
departed this life in triumph of a living faith, October 22, 1913, age
73 years, 1 month and 21 days. Sister Cress was reared in Champaign
County until she was about eight years old and then with her parents
moved to Noble County Indiana and later, having moved back to Champaign
County in 1852, she with her parents moved to Paulding County, and
since lived in this vicinity. In 1861 she was united in marriage to
John Cress. To this union were born four children, three of whom
proceeded her to the Spirit World. Her husband, having proceeded in
death, the cares of the family were thrown upon her shoulders and many
were the sorrows and hardships of the pioneer life, but with economy
and industry, she was able to secure a comfortable home. Having spent
most of her life in this county she was permitted to see this country
change almost from a wilderness to a garden. Sister Cress was converted
as a youth and joined the Evangelical Church, being one of the Charter
members of the St Paul's Society of which she remained a faithful
member until her demise. In her Christian life she was of a quiet
disposition yet with a clear, strong faith in her Redeemer. She leaves
to mourn her departure, one son, two brothers, one sister, twelve
grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many friends. In her death the
family lost a kind mother, the Church a faithful member and the
community a good neighbor.

John C Cress, 75,
died at 9:30 am yesterday in Lutheran Hospital where he had been a
patient two weeks. He lived with a nephew, Guy W Cress 934 Third St. He
had been ill a year. Two years ago, he retired after working 18 years
at the Cress Market on Broadway. He moved to Fort Wayne 25 years ago
from Payne OH. Mr Cress was a member of Flat Rock Lodge F & AM,
Payne OH and Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne. Surviving in addition to the
one nephew are another nephew, Fred Cress of Monroeville, and a niece,
Mrs Vee Kershner of Paulding OH. Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday
in the Klaehn Funeral Home, Dr Gerald H Jones officiating. Burial will
be in the Dealy Cemetery in Payne. Scottish Rite services will be held
after regular services. Friends may call after noon today at the
funeral home.

Mary Ann (Lehman)
Friday afternoon, at
the local M E Church, was held the funeral services of Mary Ann Lehman
Cress, widow of Teller Cress, a pioneer farmer of Benton township, this
county. The deceased died at the home of her son, Chester Cress, at
Sturgis Mich, at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 22 days. She is
survived by two sons, Chester, of Sturgis and George of Fort Wayne, and
their families. Also the wife and children of her two sons Emmett and
Ulysses, who preceded her in death, one brother, Peter Lehman of
Fruitdale Fla, and many nieces and nephews who reside in this
community. The remains were brought here Saturday morning and lay in
state in the M E church until the funeral services when interment was
made in the Lehman cemetery.

Mary Ann Lehman
Cress, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jacob Lehman was born in Tuscawaras
County Ohio Aug 4 1837. At the age of fourteen, she came with her
parents to Paulding county, Ohio, where she spent the greater part of
her life. In the year 1855, she was married to William Teller Cress. To
this union was born six children - Emmet James, Celesta Lineas, Chester
Bardley, Ulysses G, George M, Nettie Venora. The husband and the
following children preceded her in death - Celesta Lineas, Nettie
Venora, Ulysses G and Emmet James. Mrs Cress died at the home of her
son Chester at Sturgis Mich, Feb 26, 1929, aged 91 years, 6 months and
22 days. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, seven grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Peter Lehman living at Fruitdale
Alabama and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of
the Methodist church and in her younger days was an active member of
her church and a member of the Relief Corps of the GAR. Prayer services
will be held from the home of her son, Chester at 309 North Fourth
street, Sturgis Mich at 8:00 am, after which the body will be taken to
Payne Ohio, where the funeral service will be held from the M E church
at 1:30 pm Friday. Burial will be made in the Lehman cemetery.

Rosa May Cress,
daughter of Chester and Lucinda Cress, was born in Benton township,
Paulding county, Dec 1, 1888, died at her home in Payne Ohio, Jan 22,
1904, 15 years, 1 month and 21 days, her funeral was held Sunday pm at
the M E church and interment in the Lehman cemetery. She leaves a
father, mother, brother, sister and a host of relatives and friends to
mourn her loss. Rosa will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but her
voice, though hushed on earth will be heard among the angels in heaven.
