    History

The Medina County Genealogical Society (MCGS) was formed in July 1976 by a group of individuals who were interested in learning more about their ancestors. As the Society became more organized, it began publication of a newsletter, The Medina County Story in 1982. This newsletter is published four times a year and has a yearly index.

In 1988, the Society became a chapter in the Ohio Genealogical Society. Membership now exceeds over one hundred households and extends all across the United States.

A small library is maintained at the Medina County Historical Society, John Smart Museum, in their research room. It is available for research during regular Museum hours. Call the Medina County Historical Society at 330-722-1341 to confirm hours. Their address is 206 North Elmwood Street, Medina, Ohio.

    Meetings

The Society holds a monthly meeting on the second Sunday of each month with a social time commencing at 1:30 PM, with a program at 2:00 PM, followed by a short business meeting. Exceptions are research field trips, a June Family Picnic and a December Annual Dinner.

The Society holds their monthly meetings at the Medina County District Library, Medina, Ohio. For more details, including individual meetings and program content, contact Margaret Cheney or visit the chapter website at sites.rootsweb.com/~ohmcogs2.
