One-Room Schoolhouse No. 12

Restoration work photo

Circa 1920 photo

Schoolhouse #12 was originally established Circa 1850.   The building is described as vernacular with Greek revival elements. It was added to the National Registry in 1976.

Our Ohio Bicentennial project of restoring the one-room schoolhouse at the corner of King Church and Lake Center Street has been completed. Many thanks to everyone who volunteered their time, donated materials, and made financial contributions.

Howard Miller, Sr. was very generous in donating the materials and labor to remove the defective rafters and roof and to install a new roof on the schoolhouse.  Paul Yoder and his associates performed the labor.  Over 20 contractors and suppliers donated material, labor or both towards the restoration project.

If you have photographs or historical information regarding the Lake Center schoolhouse or any other Lake Township Schools, teachers or students, we would appreciate hearing from you.
