Welcome to the Belmont County Chapter (OGS) website. The Belmont County Chapter was established in 1977 and chartered by the Ohio Genealogical Society in 1978. The website was created in 1999 to build interest in preserving and collecting all genealogical and historical records relating to the early settlers of Belmont County.

Belmont County was the ninth county to be formed from the Northwest Territory by Governor Arthur St. Clair. Its name comes from the French, meaning "beautiful mountain" and refers to the beautiful scenery. The county seat of Belmont County is St. Clairsville.

Probate Court (Belmont County Courthouse 101 W Main St, St Clairsville, OH 43950  ph: 740-695-2121) has birth, death, marriage, & probate records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1820; County Health Department has burial records.

"Whether you are tracing the roots of your family tree or ascending its branches, we wish you great success!"
