THE CAMPAIGN OF THE SUMMER OF 1864--

THE CAMPAIGN OF THE SUMMER OF 1864--

Complete List of Casualties in the 122d Regiment New York Volunteers

Submitted by Kathy Crowell

Syracuse, March 8, 1865.

To the Editor of the Syracuse Journal:--

The following is a list of the casualties in the 122d New York Volunteers, during last summer's campaign, carefully prepared by the Rev. Mr. Nickerson, its Chaplain, from the official records in the Regimental Adjutant's office, and revised by that officer.  The time comprised is from May 5th, 1864, to Nov. 1st, 1864.  Many slight wounds, such as contusions and scratches, not requiring the recipients to leave the field, have not been given.

The regiment entered the campaign with four hundred muskets and twenty-four officers.  It sustained three hundred and nineteen casualties out of the four hundred enlisted men, and twenty-four casualties among the twenty-four officers.

The best information in our power is given in regard to all missing men, but it may be that some of those we have given up may return safely.  Truly Yours,  D.
