Yates Castle:  The 24-room Norman castle mansion was built by Col. Cornelius Tyler Longstreet, a wealthy clothing merchant. Construction was begun in 1852 and completed in 1855.  Its second owner, Alonzo Chester Yates Sr., spent thousands of dollars to make it into a high society palace.  The castle was razed in the mid-1950s to make way for expansion of the New York State University College of Medicine.
