tp Clinton Square looking east, postcard from Michelle Stone
Unposted postcard from around the turn of the century showing Clinton Square (the historic center of Syracuse), looking east. The Empire House is on the left (north side of the square); the High Victorian Gothic-style Syracuse Savings Bank building (built in 1875) is in the middle, and the red Onondaga County Savings Bank (built 1867), also known as the Gridley Building, is to the right of it. This view includes a bicylist (bicycle craze came in the 1890's) no Soldiers and Sailors monument (that was dedicated in June, 1910), and the water-filled Erie Canal (this section of the canal would be filled in in 1925).
