Edwards was long a distinguished citizen of the town (Bruce, vol. I, p. 780). Attorney. Supervisor of the town of Manlius 1826-27; 1847-4; town clerk, 1821-1823.

Foster, Samuel M. 1814, Ensign in Capt. Ralph R. Phelp's Co., 147th Regiment (Lodder; Chase, p. 302). Raised in Free and Accepted Masons 7/19/1804 (Lakin). Farmer. Father was James Foster, who established the first tavern in the present town of Manlius, ca. Fall 1790.

He commanded an independent rifle corps in the War of 1812 which won distinctions; most of its members were from Manlius. Buried in Shoemaker Cemetery, Minoa. Died 8/5/1835, age 48. Located at Oswego in War of 1812. Sons: Conrad of Minoa; Abram of Manlius.

Smith, Joseph. Was on a soldiering expedition to Sackett's Harbor in October 1814. "...wrote you by Mr. Robbins that we had been very much favored in this County this fall on account of our not being called for to go in to the service but in an hour when we least expected it we were all called for to go to Sackett's harbor for its defence, which was then thought to be in danger of an attack from the enemy accordingly we marched on the 30th of Oct. for that place we were however ordered to stop at Smith's mills (a village on the big Sandy Creek about 12 miles this side of the harbor and then to wait till further orders which we did--and encamped there about fourteen days and were discharged--Gen. Brown's army having arrived at the harbor from Niagara it was thought by him not necessary to detain the Militia there any longer and accordingly we were all sent home again--we fared verry well while in camp much better than I expected we should our provisions were good, and our duty light--the march out and back was verry fatigueing it being so verry muddy that we were forced sometimes to wade through it and water half leg deep however I stood it verry well much better than I thought I should when I started from home I was hearty all the while we were gone--if a man has his health he can endure almost anything but to be sick in such times is what I should dread above all the rest I saw several that were verry sick while I was gone, and to see how the poor fellows fared it was enough to make one shudder at the idea--I thought it would be impossible for me to endure the campaign before I went from home not having been used to such fare and fatigue as is necessary for a soldier to undergo but when I got away from home I found that I was much more hearty than I was at home and I could eat Uncle Sam's beef and bread with a good appetite" (letter from Smith to his brother, Azariah, November 1814 recorded in House, p. 625).

Smith of 'our place' was taken prisoner...there were in the engagement...about 100 from our town and the adjacent parts of Onondaga county-composing 2 companies of riflemen--Troops are continually passing...If the Americans are unsuccessful in the event of the war I think it must in a great (degree) be attributed to the indifference the people manifest and their (having little) or no means to assist in the war any further than they can (advance) their interest thereby" (House, p. 623).

Teall, Oliver. 1814, Lieut. in Capt. Ralph R. Phelps Co., 147th regiment (Lodder; Galpin, p. 302). Commanded a company which he ordered to muster in Manlius (Clayton, p. 237). Buried Rose Hill Cemetery. Born Killingworth, CT on 8/5/1788. Died 8/15/1857. Married Catharine Walter (d. 9/30/1836, age 45). Raised 3/15/1810 (Lakin). Son of Dr. Timothy and Phebe Hull Teall. Oliver was "subsequently prominent in private and public life in Syracuse, remained on the home farm until he was about eighteen, after which he was engaged in making lime, in the tanning and currying business, and other undertakings; he commanded a company in the war of 1812 which marched to Oswego when that port was threatened (Bruce, vol. I, p. 790).

Wilcox, Asel. A soldier of the War of 1812 (Lodder). Came to Manlius in 1798. Born 4/8/1784. Died 1867, age 83. Raised 6/16/1808, F. & A. M.; Master, F. & A. M., 1816 (Lakin). His father was Samuel Wilcox, a Revolutionary War soldier who fought at Bunker Hill (Bruce, vol. I, p. 779).

Worden, Walter. Burial place unknown. Marker in Fayetteville Cemetery. Born 1757; died 9/20/1814. Died of fever near Buffalo while in service in War of 1812. Raised a company for the army, of which he was a captain. They marched on foot to the Niagara frontier. He died near Batavia. Fought at Chippewa and Lundy's Lane. Settled Fayetteville about 1803-4 from Hoosack, N.Y. (Lodder; Beauchamp, Rev. War, p. 101).

Wright, George. Lived in Manlius until 1815. Born 1/1/1778. Died Oshkosh, WI 3/30/1841. Married Electa Whiting in Manlius 1/7/1804. Took part in battles of Lundy's Lane and Queenstown as First Lieutenant of dragoons (Lodder).

Clark, Christopher. Died 2/13/1851. 1812, Lt. Col. 98th reg.; 1814, Lt. Col. 98th Reg.; 1815, Lt. Col. 98th Reg. (Lodder). Clark's regiment was from Pompey. Clark kept tavern in Manlius in 1814. Listed in town of Manlius, Census of 1820.

Cole, Addison. He entered the army as a member of Capt. Smith's Co.; stationed at Harlem Heights where he remained until the close of the war in 1815. Came to Onondaga Co. soon after. Born in town of Southeast, Dutchess Co., 5/22/1793 (Lodder). Died October 29, 1889. A Fayetteville resident. Mustered in elsewhere.

Collin, David, Sr. In 1813 joined the American army and served as Sergeant for three months. Born Dutchess Co. 11/23/1794 (Clayton, pp. 380-381). Served elsewhere. Listed in town of Manlius, Census of 1820.

Gulick (Guilick), Peter. Priv. in Capt. Samuel Bond's Co., N.Y. Mil., entered 9/7/1814-11/4/1814. Roll 39, Index to War of 1812 Pension Application Files states he was buried at Fayetteville 3/7/1866. Probably mustered in elsewhere.

Gumaer, Elias B. Priv., Capt. John Peterson's Co., 10/26/1814-11/22/1814, roll 39, Index to War of 1812 Pension Application Files. Came from Cayuga; married Hannah Carrier 1/16/1817 in Manlius, N.Y. Probably mustered in elsewhere.

Hutchins, Samuel. Dewitt War of 1812 veteran (Syracuse Daily Standard, April 30, 1861). Whether he lived in town of Manlius in 1812 is not clear. Listed in town of Manlius, Census of 1820.

Jackson, Artemus. Commissioned an officer, War of 1812 commissary at Ft. Stanwix (Rome, N.Y.). F. & A. M., charter member, 1802 (Lakin). He may have moved out of the town of Manlius before the War of 1812.

Morse, Stoughton. 1809, Quartermaster in Lt. Col. Isaac Hall's regiment; 1811, Quartermaster in Lt. Col. Jacobus De Puy's regiment; 1814, Quartermaster, moved (Lodder). More was an 1815 tavern owner in Manlius Village. Died 4/20/1822, age 46. Not sure if he mustered in at town of Manlius.

Needham, Gordon. Mentioned as an officer in Charles Moseley's riflemen battalion (Galpin, pp. 300-302). Not sure if he mustered in at town of Manlius.

Parsons, Festus. Captain, died 6/6/1853 age 70 in Kirkville. Formerly of Fenner. Soldier of 1812, 129th regiment; Parsons gen. vol. 2, 156 (Lodder). Mustered in elsewhere.

Taylor, Dr. William. 1817, surgeon's mate in Col. John G. Forbes' 176th reg. (Beauchamp, Past and Present, p. 233). Came to Manlius in 1811 (Van Schaack, pp. 36; 79); affiliated F. & A. M., 1821 (Lakin). Member of Congress 1833-1839. Unclear as to whether he served in War of 1812.

Woodworth, John. Father of Alvah Woodworth of Manlius. Was in War of 1812. Died 12/20/1856, age 82. Buried Christ Church Cemetery. Lived with son, Alvah, last 18 years of his life (Bruce, Vol. 2, p. 202). Mustered in elsewhere.
