This society was organized July 6, 1879, by the present pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Zimmerman, of Manchester, Md.  During the first fifteen months of the organization services were held in the Court House on Sundays and on Wednesday evenings.  The brick church on South Salina street, which had been erected by an independent society, was then purchased, and it was improved and rededicated on the 1st of October, 1880, under its present name.  The congregation is connected with the New York and New Jersey Synod.
