Sparling, Frederick, PO Akron, N. Y., was born in Oakfield, Genesee County, May 7, 1854, educated in the common schools and Clarence Academy, and has always followed the honorable occupation of farming. December 25, 1873, he was united in marriage to Rose Kelkenberg of Newstead, Erie County. To them were born three children: Edward A., who is a farmer with his father; Myrtle M., who is a school teacher; and Amy L., a student at the Akron High School. Pauline E. Kelkenberg, an orphan niece of Mrs. Sparling's, also resides with them. Mr. Sparling's father, Anson Sparling. was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, in the year 1828; he was educated in the German schools and came to the United States in 1850, locating in Oakfield. One year later he married Sophia Burr of that place, formerly of his native place, and to them were born four children: Frederick, Anna M., Louisa M., and Eureka A., three of whom are now living. Mr. Anson Sparling died September 6, 1896: Mrs. Sparling survived him about two years and a half, dying January 1, 1899. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sparling are prominent members of the First Presbyterian church of Akron. In his political choice he is a staunch Republican and has served as highway commissioner for nine consecutive years.
