William Smith, a farmer, was a native of Berlin, Rensselaer County, N. Y., where he died in 1840, at the age of 70. He married Esther Godfrey, of Berlin, and his children were John, George, Calvin, Robert, Catharine, Rachel, Ann, Panelpia, William C., and Hannah. William C. Smith married Margaret Harris, of London, Eng., and has four children, Mary, Emma, William H., and George. William H. Smith married Anna McCue, daughter of Peter and Mary McLaughlin, formerly of Ireland. They have four children, Raymond, Charles, Carrie, and Florence. He was the proprietor of the Oakfield House. His brother George was a dry goods merchant of Oakfield, and married Laura, daughter of William and Laura (Amsden) Howland.
