||
|
Perkins,
Samuel F., was born in Fairport, NY, October 25, 1833, a son of Asa
and Martha (Esten) Perkins. His father lived to a ripe old age, dying
in his ninety-fourth year. Samuel F. received a common school education,
and early in life entered the employ of the New York Central RailRoad;
he is well known as a locomotive engineer, one of the oldest in Western
New York; his service as an engineer covers a period of about forty
years, which fact alone is substantial evidence of his ability, carefulness
and fidelity; for more than a quarter of a century he has drawn the
passenger train between Batavia and Canandaigua, and not only stands
high in the estimation of his employers, but has attained a foremost
place as a citizen of Batavia. In 1838 he was married to Margaret,
daughter of Jeremiah Foland; they are the parents of four children-Edward,
Mary E., Cora A. and Grace M. Mr. Perkins is a Methodist. |
