BIOGRAPHY CHARLES J. NEWTON - OF DARIEN NY |
||
|
Newton,
Charles J., was born in the town of Darien, Genesee County, N. Y.,
September 27, 1848, a son of John and Lydia (Newton) Newton. His father
died when he was but a child and early in life he was left dependent
upon his own exertions for a livelihood. Mr. Newton spent three years
as a commercial traveler in the employ of Curtis Whittlesey and later
he engaged in the mercantile business on his own account at Fargo,
N. Y., where he carried on business for two years, when he sold out
and removed to his farm in Darien, where he has since resided. In
January, 1890, Mr. Newton married Sarah, daughter of Jacob and Eva
(Croop) Spece of Lancaster, Erie County, N. Y. Mr. Newton has never
mixed largely in political matters, but his opinions were judiciously
formed and fearlessly asserted; he is now a member of the school board.
He has a large circle of friends and is an honored and respected citizen. |
