ASA MERRILL - OF BYRON, NY

Asa Merrill, son of Jared, came to Byron in 1809, on foot, with a knapsack on his back, in company with his brother. They traveled about 35 miles a day. Loren O. Merrill, son of Asa, the pioneer, was born August 7, 1829, married Ermina J. Holbrook, of Byron, and settled on the homestead where he resided until after the death of his father. In 1875 he removed to Wheatland, Monroe County, where he is now engaged in farming. His son, Maj. H. W. Merrill, was born on the Merrill homestead, September 25, 1854, was reared a farmer, and married Nettie Warboys, February 21, 1878. Resettled in his native town, and engaged in farming, where he still resides. They have a daughter and son, Georgiana and Walter J.
