Hazleton, Sidney S. (deceased), was a native of Haddam, Conn., born about 1804. In 1846 he came to Genesee County, N. Y., locating in the town of Le Roy, where he purchased a farm and lived until his death, which occurred in 1878. His farm was one of the finest fruit farms in the County, and his son, James E., was a horticulturist of some note and was authority on a great many plans of raising fruit The family history can be traced back for 200 years; the early ancestor coming from Hazelden, Dallington, County Sussex, England, whence their name. They were early settlers and a family of influence in Connecticut, where Sidney S. took a deep interest in educational matters. They had a large family, three of whom are living: Frances, married John F. Field, who spent the most of his life in mining in Colorado, and died in 1877. He explored mines and was an expert in mining matters; Albert Hazleton of Pavilion, N. Y., and Mrs. E. F. Ensign of Madison, Ohio. Source:
