|
Benjamin Gumaer, son of Peter, was born in Orange County. When young he located in Onondaga County. He was a contractor, and came to this town in 1817 and built a log house. He was the first supervisor of the town, holding the office several years. He died in 1831, honored and respected by all. He married Patience, daughter of Ephraim Thomas, who survived him many years. Their children were Benjamin, who died in Canada; Lewis, who died in Bethany; Samuel, who went West; Margaret, who married William Lane, and died in Canada; Martha, who married Selah Vosburgh, and died 1849; James, of Alabama; Elizabeth, who married a Mr. Kent, and died in Canada; and Reuben, who died young.
