BIOGRAPHY

WILLIAM GRISWOLD - OF LE ROY, NY

Griswold, William, p. o. Le Roy, N. Y., was born in the town of Le Roy, October 30, 1819. His father, Julius Griswold, was a native of Connecticut, and came to Le Roy in 1813. He was a shoemaker; afterward a farmer. He married Laura Thwing. His death occurred June 23, 1830. William Griswold was educated in the common schools and has always been a farmer; he served as highway commissioner for six years. Mr. Griswold married Lucinda Bannister, and their children were Mary E., Francis M. and Thankful. Mrs. Griswold died in 1859, and Mr. Griswold then married Frances, daughter of Henry H. Hull; they have four children: Antoinette J., Paul W., Blanche and Grace. Mr. Griswold is one of Le Roy's progressive farmers, an intelligent, public spirited citizen. He is of kind and amiable disposition and enjoys the universal respect of the community where he has so long resided.
