BIOGRAPHY

JOHN M GABBEY - OF PEMBROKE, NY

Gabbey, John M., M. D., P.O. Pembroke, NY, was born in Pembroke, March 8, 1867. He was educated in the public schools and in the Buffalo Normal School, from which he was graduated in 1891. After teaching school one year he entered the medical department of the Buffalo University in the fall of 1892, which he attended for two years. He then entered the Eclectic Medical College of Cincinnati, Ohio, from which he was graduated on June 5, 1895. In the autumn of that year he became professor of physiology, giving lectures one year; at about the same time he entered the Cincinnati College of Medicine and Surgery, graduating with distinction from that institution April 2, 1896. He earned the money to pay the expense of his education and by persistent study and his excellent natural qualifications, stands among the leading young men of his profession in the County. His father, James Gabbey, was born in the north of Ireland in 1817, was educated in the schools of that country, and was a farmer by occupation. He came to the United States when a young man, and on May 8. 1848, married Jane, daughter of James Crossen, who bore him seven children: James C., Robert, Mary, Margaret, Nancy, Thomas and John M. Mr. Gabbey died September 9, 1880, and his widow September 20, 1890. Dr. John M. Gabbey is a member of Pembroke Lodge No. 432, I. O. O. F., and Corfu Lodge No. 503, K. O. T. M.
