BIOGRAPHY

JOHN P. CASEY - OF BATAVIA, NY

 

Casey, John P., was born in Batavia, NY, August 10, 1857, educated in the parochial school, and early in life learned the plumber's trade. In the spring of 1885, with his brother, W. C. Casey (born April 30, 1859), he established their present business, making a specialty of fine groceries. Their father, William Casey, was born in Ireland, June 10, 1831, and came to the United States in June, 1853, settling in Batavia, where he was engaged in the shoe trade. He was prominent in organizing and building the Catholic church and in 1883 prepared a local history of that church. He died October 31, 1887. John P. Casey is at present trustee of St. Joseph's church and a member of the school board, and has ever received and merited the respect of his associates. Mr. Casey is a director of the local Home Association and has been prominent as a fireman. He is an active, public spirited man, has a large acquaintance, and is held in universal esteem.
