James R. Bickle, who came to Oakfield in 1851, was of English parentage. His parents, Richard and Mary (Rockey) Bickle, had five children, viz.: James R., Fanny, Mary, Richard, and Thomas. James R. was born in 1831, and had reached his 20th year when he came to Oakfield. He married Alice, daughter of William and Ann (Watts) Mills, of Oakfield, and their children were William H., Richard R., George M., John W., Charles E., Frank J. and Alfred E. He died in 1884, aged 54 years. His widow occupies the home farm on road 14. John W. married Annie, daughter of John and Mary (Harloff) Sparling. Charles E. married Sarah, daughter of James and Rose (McCabe) Boyce, of Oakfield.
