Bergen County is in the northeast corner of New Jersey. Settled by the Dutch, Bergen was created in 1683 as one of the four original Counties in New Jersey. Its early borders included what are now Passaic and Hudson counties. In 1675 Bergen was included in a judicial district with Essex, Monmouth, and Middlesex counties. Later in 1683, Bergen was recognized as a county by the Provincial Assembly. In 1710, Hackensack became the county seat. Today, our 239-square-mile parcel of land in the northeast corner of the state has an estimated population of 825,380. Bergen had become a county of 70 municipalities, 56 boroughs, nine townships, three cities and two villages.

I have a major project currently underway for Bergen County, NJ. with various materials from out-of-copyright books with Bergen County material. I do not have all of the material scanned, but am working on it slowly.

If you would like to participate in this project and are good at typing and proofreading, please let me know with an email. Thank you for your consideration.
