NOTE 1: The article clipped from The Clarion refers to THE OFFICERS OF THE 3RD MISSISSIPPI, however the regiment is more commonly recognized as the 23RD MISSISSIPPI.

NOTE 2: The company BLOUNT GUARDS was later assigned as Company A.

NOTE 3: The company T. B. STUBBS RIFLES was later consolidated  with Company E; Captain Reuben Ransom Knight from Dumas died in early 1862.

NOTE 4: Lt. Colonel Joseph M. Wells was later promoted to Colonel.

NOTE 5: Captain Moses McCarley was later promoted to Lt. Colonel.

NOTE 6: 2nd Lt. George W. B. Garrett was later promoted to Major.
