HATTIE MAE WYRICK Hattie Mae Wyrick, 94, Holden, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Holden Manor Care Center, Holden, Missouri. She was born April 14, 1907 in Ashland, Oregon, the daughter of Francis M. and Maggie E. (Purdy) Walker. She lived most of her life in Kansas City and Lincoln, Missouri before moving to Holden in 1999. She was married to Orville Flanagan, and Cecil W. Wyrick, both of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Wyrick worked as a biller for Guy's Potato Chips in Kansas City for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lincoln, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She had attended the First United Methodist Church in Holden. She is survived by two daughters, Ora Mae Wheeler, and Margaret I. Ross, of Lincoln, MO; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Gillespie. Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2001 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Rev. John Ketcher officiated. Music included "How Great Thou Art," "In the Garden," and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Kennie Warren, Danny Warren, Courtney Warren, Lindsey Warren, Meghan Warren, and Steve Wheeler. Interment was at Ashland Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri. Memorial contributions are suggested to the United Methodist Women. RICHARD LEE GOLDSTEIN Richard Lee Goldstein, 58, executive director of the HOPE Coalition in Holden, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2001 at the Lee's Summit Hospital after a brief illness. Memorial services were held Monday, May 21 at Temple Beth Torah in Shawnee Mission, KS. Goldstein was a native of New York and had been a resident of rural Holden since 1990. He received his BA in history and his MA in distributive social sciences-education from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. He was an expert in history and authored "The First Collection of Western Gems", "The Second Collection of Western Gems", "Slaughter On The Plains" and "Death Lived At The Inn". His weekly column appeared in seven newspapers in Missouri and Iowa. He was also an occasional guest expert in the area of western history on radio stations in the Kansas City area. Goldstein was chairman of the social studies department and head cross country coach in the Las Vegas, NM City School System for 11 years; was a sales representative for the Kansas City Star and district sales manager and history columnist for the Blue Spring Examiner and Independence Examiner; a reporter and columnist for the Holden Image and a member of the adjunct history faculty at Park University at different times in his career before taking the position of executive director of the HOPE Coalition in 2000. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Johnson County Help; a member of Beth Torah; the Johnson County Historical Society and a founding member of the Holden Middle School Booster Club. He was also very active in youth sports in the Holden area, having coached a number of sports teams. He is survived by his wife, Julia; one daughter, Nicole; three sons, Nathan, Matthew and Marshall; one brother, Dr. Joel Goldstein and wife, Elaine; one sister, Dr. Vida Goldstein and husband, Dr. Gregory Gabor; many nieces and nephews. ROBERT LEWIS "BOB" BIRD Robert Lewis "Bob" Bird, 68, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born Saturday, December 10, 1932 in Warrensburg, Missouri, the son of George Thomas and Florence Laws Bird. On July 4, 1952 he married Betty Marr in Leeton, Missouri. Mr. Bird was a 1952 Leeton High School graduate. He was an Army vet of the Korean War from March 26, 1953 to October 11, 1953. He was a highway maintenance supervisor for district four, State Highway Department, Concordia, for 24 years retiring in 1987. He worked for Fisher Body, KC, and he was a self employed truck driver and worked at Marr Bros. Quarry. Mr. Bird was a life member of Elks, Legion 131 and DAV. He is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Robert E. Bird and wife Debbie, Warrensburg; two grandchildren, Benjamin Bird and Lance Randolph, both of Warrensburg; one sister, Alma Adams, Warrensburg; three brothers, Alvin Bird, Placerville, CA, Wayne Bird, Santa Barbara, CA, and Bill Bird, Centerview; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Hare and one brother, Glen Bird. Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2001 at Williams Funeral Chapel, Warrensburg. Rev. Dave Mifflin officiated. Elaine Laursen, organist accompanied Melissa Gower, vocalist. Music included "Wind Beneath My Wings," and "In the Garden." Honorary pallbearers were Harley Mifflin, Dwight Ricker, Sam Briscoe, and Jim Hull. Interment was at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens, Warrensburg, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the VA Hospital in Kansas City. WANDA FAY SNOW Wanda Fay Snow, 70, Holden, passed away Friday, May 18, 2001 at her home in Holden. She was born October 7, 1930 in Butler, Missouri, the daughter of Louis Calvin and Beulah (Gregg) Bryant. On November 18, 1950 she married Grover William Snow. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1989. Mrs. Snow grew up in Adrian, Missouri. She had lived in the Kansas City area before moving to the Strasburg/Holden areas, where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed many hobbies including camping, gardening, fishing, and being outdoors. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Holden. Mrs. Snow was a homemaker. Survivors include three sons, Grover Snow, Jr., Knob Noster, Jesse Ray Snow, Holden, Floyd Ray Snow, Higginsville; two step sons, Grover B. Snow, Osawatamie, KS, and William Roy Snow, GA; one daughter, Wanda Rosalita Delacruz, Hapville, GA; three brothers, Joseph Bryant, ME, James L. Bryant, TX, and Lee Bryant, Leavenworth, KS; four sisters, Ruby Sulkowski, Novi, MI, Ann Crain, St. Cloud, FL, Jan Carney, Leeton, and Carolyn K. Smith, Kingsville; four step brothers, Mike Chastain, Roger Chastain, Jimmie Chastain, and Jerry Chastain; 27 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. A visitation and memorial service was held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Rev. Richard Morris officiated. Interment was at Holden Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wanda F. Snow Memorial Fund. TIMOTHY B. O'NEIL Timothy B. O'Neil, 44, Belton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at his home. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the Belton Christian Church. Cremation. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church playground fund. Mr. O'Neil was born August 30, 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a truck driver for Belfonte Ice Cream Co. He was a Catholic and was baptized in 1956. He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy P. O'Neil. He is survived by his wife, Doris O'Neil, of the home; his mother and stepfather, Shirley and George Curtis; two brothers and six sisters: Sean and Michael O'Neil, Joan Knotts, Mary Ellen Gossling, all of the Greater Kansas City area; Marcia Cinq-Mars and Ann B. ROY DALE GEARY Roy Dale Geary, 78, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 14, 2001 at home. Mr. Geary was born November 7, 1922 in Holden, Missouri. He was a WWII Army veteran. He worked for Bartles and Shores Chemical Co. and Kansas City Souther Railroad. He was on the Board of Directors for NAIC. He belonged to the Kansas City Swing Dance Club, Moose Lodge in Wichita, KS and Nitetime Needlers Quilt Guild. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ramey; two brothers, Bill Geary and Ewing "Jack" Geary; and sister, Clara Janette Geary. Survivors include his wife, Lougene Geary; two stepsons, Mark R. Harris and his wife, Mary and Clark R. Harris and his wife, Paula; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Laura Carter, Opal McCary and Minnie Fisher; two brothers, Carl E. "Bud" Geary and Reeves Geary and his wife, Lucille; sister-in-law, Cecilia Geary; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2001 at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Chapel, under the direction of Mt. Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Chapel, Kansas City, Missouri. Reverend Robert J. George officiated. Soloist was grandson, Stephen Harris. Green, 72, Kansas City, KS passed away Monday, May 21, 2001 at Providence Medical Center. Mrs. Green was born in Independence, Missouri and had lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was an office clerk for the Artex Company. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star, Gladiola Chapter. She is survived by three sons, Donald Green, Jimmie D. Green, Sr., and wife Stephanie, and Ronald Green, all of Kansas City, KS; a brother, Harold Ulshafer, Clinton; five grandchildren, James Green, Jimmie D. Green, Jr., Michael Green, Joseph Green, Sr. and Pamela Green; and eight great grandchildren.
