MERVIN ALEXANDER VICK Mervin Alexander Vick, 85, of Holden, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his home. He was born Thursday, April 8, 1915, in Assiniboi Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Carl T. and M. Effie Baldry Vick. On June 8, 1938 he married Dorothy Elaine Bugbee in Glasgow, Montana. Mr. Vick was United States Army veteran of World War II serving in Occupied Japan. He had worked at Butler Mfg. Co. in Independence, an assembler and inspector for General Motors at Leeds Plant in Kansas City and had been a farmer. He was a member of the Restoration Branch of of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, Chilhowee. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Local 93, Kansas City, Missouri. He has lived in Holden since 1954. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of the home; four sons, Larry Vick, Sweet Springs, Allen Vick, Beaumont, TX, Dennis Vick, Lee's Summit, and Alex Vick, Buckner; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Anderson, Kalispell, Montana, and Dorothy Graham, Holden; and two brothers, Melvin Vick, Kalispell, Montana, and Kenneth Vick, Thompson Falls, Montana. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Isakson, and one brother, Adrian Vick. Funeral services were held Monday, July 24, 2000, at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Elder Bill Campbell and Elder Gordon Whiteaker officiated. Organist was Mrs. Hoanie Vick and vocalist was Mrs. Becky Deason. Pallbearers were Mike Vick, Randy Vick, Adrian Vick, Lonnie Goodwin, Zachary Howard, and Jonathan Vick. Internment was at Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 5844 and American Legion Post 90, both of Holden. Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson County Hospice. RUSSELL LEE ELLIS,JR. Russell Lee Ellis, Jr., 66, Kingsville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. He was born November 10, 1933 in Kingsville, Missouri, the son of Russell Lee and Goldie Flossie Shull Ellis. On June 28, 1991, he married Carol Campbell in Maui, Hawaii. Mr. Ellis graduated from Kingsville High School in 1951 and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. He moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri in 1957 and returned to Kingsville in 1989. He was a member of the HoldenOns square dance club and a member of the Kingsville Restoration Branch Church. Survivors include his wife, Carol Ellis, of the home; one son, Jeff Ellis and wife Marina, Lee's Summit; two daughters, Cheryl Allen and husband Ben, Lee's Summit and Cathy Brose and husband Eric, whom were able to visit Russell on a recent visit from their home in Maui, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Benjamin, Tyler, and Sydnee. Funeral service were held Thursday, July 20, 2000 at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. Elder Jim Reeves officiated. Sheila McFarland soloist, was accompanied by Barbara Volskay. Pallbearers were Jeff Ellis, Ben Allen, Benjamin Allen, Don Gardner, Dwight Duncan, and Bill Dawson. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Ellis, Bob Shull, Les Watterson, Bill Briner, and Eric Brose. Interment was at Kingsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Kingsville Cemetery Association. LUCY L. COLSTER Lucy L. Colster, 96, Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg. She was born October 19, 1903, near Holden, Missouri, the daugher of William Wilson and Emma Beard Howard. She lived in the Holden and Centerview communities all of her life. She received her elementary education at Stout School and graduated from Holden High School. On December 12, 1928 she married Nicholas Louis Colster near Centerview. He preceded her in death April 11, 1970. Mrs. Colster graduated from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught second grade at Holden Elementary for several years in addition to being a farm wife and a homemaker. At age 70 she was called back to substitute teach in the Centerview district for a few days. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holden. Surviving her passing are two sons, John W. Colster, and William L. Colster, both of Centerview; a daughter, Juanita Peaslee, Centerview; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Ousley, Jane Downing, Debbra Repp, Gary Colster, Donna Frattini, Janice Hoover, and Nicole Teter; and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Stumpff and Esther Elliot. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden. The Reverend Steve Shearer officiated. Julie Stout, organist accompanied Vicki Stout, soloist. Music was "In the Garden," and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Ora Stumpff, Carl Stumpff, Richard Elliot, Eugene Colster, Albert Colster, and Marion Stanfield. Interment was at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Warrensburg. Memorial contributions are suggested to First United Methodist Church of Holden.
