Two Deaths in Family The King family of the King district was doubly bereaved last week when the aged mother and a daughter passed away within a few hours of each other. Mrs. King, pioneer and schoolteacher of the early days, died at the home of her son. The daughter, Mrs. Willard A. Andrews, died at the home of her brother-in-law, Bismark, Illinois. ****** Annie Elizabeth Taggart was born January 8, 1848 at St. Charles, Missouri and died January 12, 1928, age 80 years and 4 days. Her father was a carpenter and as the country grew westward he worked his way, taking his family. When she was very young she joined the Methodist Church. She was educated for a teacher at a Seminary at California, Missouri, after which her parents moved to a farm, which is now in possession of C. E. Howard. She taught several terms of school at the King School. Some of her pupils now living are Finley Lattimer, Weden Fisher and Milburn Mitchell. In 1874 she was married to William C. King and lived on the same farm for 54 years. They united with the Vitae Springs Baptist Church when it was first organized and always kept her membership there. To this union were born eight children, Agnes, Willie, Minta, Edison and Eva, all deceased. Robert of the home, Jennie of Kansas City and Lillie (Mrs. A. E. Conwell) of Holden. Her husband passed away October 19, 1906, after a long illness. She stayed with her home and children and enjoyed her hard work, always loving and kind to those around her and always helping those in need. A beggar never knocked on her door and was turned away without food or money. She would always say, "That was somebody's son." Her health began to fail four years ago but she did not take to bed until the last. She leaves to mourn her loss one brother, Winfield Taggart of Boise City, Oklahoma, and one sister, Mrs. Alice McClanahan of Jefferson City, several nieces and nephews who reside in Colorado, three children, nine grandchildren, four great-grand children and a host of friends. Funeral services were in charge of T.W. Goodwin and held at her home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. B. F. Heaton of Holden Baptist Church. Mrs. Emma McClain, Mrs. J.O. Markland, Dr. H. L. Mahnken and Ed Barnes sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "In the Sweet By and Bye," and "Asleep in Jesus". Pallbearers were Lon White, Dave Morrison, Al Ryder, Clarence Yoder, George Reuter and Henry Andruss. Burial in Smyrna Cemetery. Annie Elizabeth Taggart King was the daughter of Larman & Louisa J. (Long) Taggart. ******* Mrs. Eva Andrews Eva Lena King, daughter of William C. and Annie E. King was born September 9, 1886 and died January 13, 1928 at her home in Bismark, Illinois after a ten day illness of pneumonia. She spent her childhood in this vicinity and graduated from King School in April 1901. In the fall she united with the Vitae Springs Baptist Church. She had a loving disposition and made friends wherever she went. On March 7, 1906 she was married to Willard A. Andrews of Kingsville, where they lived on year, then moved to Independence, Missouri for one year. Later they moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana where they made their home until his death five years ago, when he was found dead in his car by the roadside. A month later her eldest son, Leeman age 12 died of typhoid fever. She then made her home with her brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Bismark, Illinois. During her last hours she had never been told of the serious condition of her mother, yet she told her children that her mother had passed away and she was going with her. She leaves to mourn her loss, five children, Olive, Marie, Dale, Lowell and Blanche, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Sunday at her home in Bismark, Illinois. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband.
